ENTRANSITO 2026 

EN EL.RoL is a multidisciplinary project formed by Elena Abeni + Roland Kocherhans. EL.RoL fits naturally within the EnTransíto proposal, as their work explores states of transit, both physical and emotional, and the intermediate territories between identity, belonging, and transformation. Through sculptures, paintings, and installations, EL.RoL articulates experiences of movement, symbolic migration, and cultural transition, inviting the viewer to question the boundaries between here and there, past and present, human and natural. EL.RoL’s consistent practice in international and collaborative contexts reinforces the capacity for dialogue and artistic interaction that this project promotes.                                                                                                                                                                                                            

ES EL.RoL es un proyecto multidisciplinar formado por Elena Abeni + Roland Kocherhans. EL.RoL encaja de manera natural dentro de la propuesta EnTransíto, ya que su trabajo explora estados de tránsito, tanto físicos como emocionales, y los territorios intermedios entre identidad, pertenencia y transformación. A través de esculturas, pinturas e instalaciones, EL.RoL articula experiencias de movimiento, migración simbólica y transición cultural, invitando al espectador a cuestionar los límites entre aquí y allí, pasado y presente, humano y natural. La práctica constante de EL.RoL en contextos internacionales y colaborativos refuerza la capacidad de diálogo e interacción artística que promueve este proyecto.

Biofonía (Souvenir visceral) / Sound Sculptures series – A visceral reflection on silence and the presence of nature during the COVID-19 lockdown. The sculpture, shaped like a prehistoric horn, captures the moment when natural sounds briefly returned to our lives. In the ferry terminal space, the piece will be presented visually, emphasizing form and material as a reminder of the sound.                                                                          Biofonía (Visceral Souvenir) / serie Esculturas Sonoras — Una reflexión visceral sobre el silencio y la presencia de la naturaleza durante el confinamiento por la COVID-19. La escultura, con forma de cuerno prehistórico, captura el momento en que los sonidos naturales regresaron brevemente a nuestras vidas. En el espacio de la terminal de ferris, la pieza se presentará de forma visual, enfatizando la forma y el material como recuerdo del sonido.

Islands of Salt – A series of paintings paying tribute to salt and the islands, both real and metaphorical. Salt is applied directly on the canvas, combined with vibrant colors, allowing the sun to participate in the evaporation process. The work evokes movement and transformation, recalling migrations—both human and elemental—toward the islands created during the creative act. Black boxes frame the works as a powerful reminder of deaths at sea during migration attempts.                                                                                                                                                                   Islas de Sal — Una serie de pinturas que rinde homenaje a la sal y a las islas, tanto reales como metafóricas. La sal se aplica directamente sobre el lienzo, combinada con colores vibrantes, permitiendo que el sol participe en el proceso de evaporación. La obra evoca movimiento y transformación, recordando migraciones, tanto humanas como elementales, hacia las islas surgidas durante el proceso creativo. Las cajas negras enmarcan las obras como un poderoso recordatorio de las muertes en el mar durante intentos de migración                                                    ++++++++++++

EN During the covid lockdown, Nature's soundscape which normally goes unnoticed due to noise pollution, regained a great presence in our lives. 

In the summer of 2020 we decided that the best thing to do was to stay isolated for a long time and concentrate on creating rediscovering forgotten sensations.

Fortunately, we live on a beautiful Mediterranean island, immersed in a stunning landscape near  pine forests and the sea. There is a popular beach nearby, complete with DJs and dance parties. This means that from April through October noise from planes, boats and car motors, shouting and music are almost deafening. Day and night, seven days a week. 

On our island we all live off tourism, directly or indirectly: this is the most important dilemma we all share.

With Biofonía we wish to recall the very special moment of respite for Earth that was the lockdown.The large, prehistoric-like horn treats us to the surprising and sometimes overwhelming gifts that the pandemic also produced: it briefly gave us back centuries of sounds. 

Biofonía is a visceral “souvenir”.

ES Durante el confinamiento por la COVID, el paisaje sonoro de la naturaleza, que normalmente pasa desapercibido debido a la contaminación acústica, recuperó una gran presencia en nuestras vidas.

En el verano de 2020 decidimos que lo mejor era permanecer aislados durante un largo tiempo y concentrarnos en la creación, redescubriendo sensaciones olvidadas.

Afortunadamente, vivimos en una hermosa isla mediterránea, inmersos en un paisaje impresionante cerca de bosques de pinos y del mar. Hay una playa muy popular cerca, con DJs y fiestas. Esto hace que, de abril a octubre, el ruido de aviones, barcos, motores de coches, gritos y música sea casi ensordecedor. Día y noche, siete días a la semana.

En nuestra isla todos vivimos directa o indirectamente del turismo: este es el dilema más importante que compartimos.

Con Biofonía queremos recordar el momento tan especial de respiro para la Tierra que supuso el confinamiento. El gran cuerno de aspecto prehistórico nos ofrece los sorprendentes y a veces abrumadores regalos que también produjo la pandemia: nos devolvió, aunque fuera brevemente, siglos de sonidos.

Biofonía es un “souvenir” visceral.

Biofonía has been in our garden for several years, exposed to the elements. Honestly, it’s a bit gross: the rain, the sun, and the animals have taken their toll. We wanted to exhibit it like this, in this state… but today we’ve decided to intervene.

  6 days to go until En Transito, the event that will take place at the disused ferry station in Sant Antoni de Portmany. Biofonía will be exhibited there    starting Thursday, alongside the works of other artists. Biofonía is transforming once again, becoming our most versatile piece, capable of adapting    both to each exhibition context and to the different messages it conveys.

Biofonía ha estado en nuestro jardín durante varios años, expuesta a los elementos. Sinceramente, está bastante deteriorada: la lluvia, el sol y los animales han dejado su huella. Queríamos exponerla así, en este estado… pero hoy hemos decidido intervenir.

  Faltan 6 días para En Transito, el evento que tendrá lugar en la estación de ferris en desuso de Sant Antoni de Portmany. Biofonía se exhibirá allí

  a partir del jueves, junto a las obras de otros artistas. Biofonía vuelve a transformarse una vez más, convirtiéndose en nuestra pieza más versátil,      capaz de adaptarse tanto a cada contexto expositivo como a los distintos mensajes que transmite.

Migrations / Island of Salt series = Migraciónes / serie Islas de Sal 

EN Islands of Salt is a series of works that has become a tribute to salt and to islands, whether real or metaphorical. I use salt directly on the canvas, combined with one of my favourite colours, letting the sun take part in the evaporation process. In these paintings, the action of salt takes center stage, while the black box surrounds the work with its aesthetics and symbolism, evoking both the deaths of migrants trying to reach the islands and the sorrow of leaving their homelands. Black box are stronging reminder of death in the sea. 

The title Migrations evokes movement and transformation, symbolising a journey through saline landscapes and a connection with the sea, reflecting the action of the elements on the canvas. Human migrations are a reality, here mirrored by the movement of salt and paint across the surface. The result evokes movements — migrations — towards islands that emerge during the creative process.

In the past, islands whose greatest wealth was salt drove their inhabitants to emigrate in search of opportunities. Today, those same islands have become golden destinations, attracting those who arrive for their high tourist value. Migrations have changed direction: before, people left the salt islands; now, they arrive.   

We love the taste of salt, the sea, the sun, the islands, the colour black, and the flow of migrations. 

ES Islas de Sal es una serie de obras que se ha convertido en un homenaje a la sal y a las islas, tanto reales como metafóricas. Utilizo la sal directamente sobre el lienzo, combinada con uno de mis colores favoritos, dejando que el sol participe en el proceso de evaporación. En estas pinturas, la acción de la sal ocupa el centro, mientras la caja negra rodea la obra con su estética y simbolismo, evocando tanto las muertes de migrantes que intentan llegar a las islas como la tristeza del abandono de sus tierras de origen. Las cajas negras son un poderoso recordatorio de las muertes en el mar.

El título Migraciones evoca movimiento y transformación, simbolizando un viaje a través de paisajes salinos y una conexión con el mar, reflejando la acción de los elementos sobre el lienzo. Las migraciones humanas son una realidad, aquí reflejada en el movimiento de la sal y la pintura sobre la superficie. El resultado evoca desplazamientos —migraciones— hacia islas que emergen durante el proceso creativo.

En el pasado, las islas cuya mayor riqueza era la sal empujaban a sus habitantes a emigrar en busca de oportunidades. Hoy, esas mismas islas se han convertido en destinos dorados, atrayendo a quienes llegan por su alto valor turístico. Las migraciones han cambiado de dirección: antes la gente salía de las islas de la sal; ahora, llega a ellas.

Amamos el sabor de la sal, el mar, el sol, las islas, el color negro y el flujo de las migraciones.
